Title: Research
Post by: reg24 on 2008-01-29 17:18
Hi,
My main concern is the lack of apparent reserach into the causes of male fertility. Its bad enough knowing that you are infertile and being offered ICSI or IVF but what really bothers me is what seems to be a complete absence of any research. Whilst I will be glad to be a Dad even if by an unsual route I certainly don't envy anyoone else having to go through all this!
So, I have to ask is anything going on - and I mean anything?
Several comments have been made here about research and frankly I wonder if one thing this group could do as it grows is to get some donations adn/or put some pressure somewhere to get some work done.. You see stuff on the Internet but does it work ? I susepct a lot does not so why can we not even work to get that stuff removed to protect us from cheats?
Considering all the money I have spent out on this and probbaly more to spend, a decent donation would seem trivial.. and if it helped.. well good job too!
We are supposed to be a brilliant country with good researchers so why not do some real work for men  instead of the glory stuff with IVF and all the money that is made ..
Sorry I am rambling but it makes me feel we are being a bit used to pay for reserach that doctors really want (which does not include us).

 >:(Yeah been thinking along the same line for last couple of years, at the clinic we are attending all the NHS staff have told us how they are angry and embarrassed with costs (we are looking at £4k in Scotland for 1 shot at ICSI) bit steep but got to go for it. Wonder why there is no media/public awareness of these costs...probably no one cares if not there own problem...cynical i know...
